The Sultan Fish

Jelawat or also known as the Sultan fish is a freshwater fish predators. Its scientific name is Leptobarbus Hoevenii. I myself did not have this type of fish in my pond but I always see a few in a supermarket nearby. These fish could grow up to 60 cm and usually swims deep in the river. Long time ago, Jelawats are a royal dish (for Sultans or Kings only). I think thats how Jelawat got the name Sultan Fish. After a while, Sultan fish has been successfully bred and commercialized for the public community. It is usually found in rivers, lakes and mines around Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. You may note the difference between Malaysian Jelawat and Thailand's Jelawat. Malaysian Jelawat are whitish silver in color and they have bigger body and belly. Jelawat from Thailand have red on the tail and the fins beneath.
